Preethi Pal, credited to SAI, has made history as the first Indian woman track and field athlete to secure two medals at the Paralympics. She won a bronze in the 200m T35 category in Paris with a personal best time of 30.01 seconds. This achievement makes her the second Indian woman to accomplish this feat in a single Paralympics, following shooter Avani Lekhara's success in Tokyo. Preethi's bronze adds to India's tally in para-athletics at the Paris Paralympics, where she competed against world record holder Zhou Xia and Guo Qianqian of China, who took gold and silver respectively. Earlier in the event, she won bronze in the women’s T35 100m event with a personal best time of 14.21 seconds, marking India's first Paralympics track event medal. Preethi's journey began with difficulties due to coordination impairments and a childhood filled with challenges, but her life changed at 17 when she discovered para-athletics through social media and met Paralympic athlete Fatima Khatoon. With Khatoon's guidance, she began competing at state and national championships, eventually making her mark at the Asian Para Games in China. To enhance her skills, Preethi relocated to Delhi to train under coach Gajender Singh. After intense training, she achieved bronze medals in the 100m and 200m events at the World Para Athletics Championships with the financial support of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme. In the men's F40 shot put final, Ravi Rongali from India secured fifth place with a personal best of 10.63m. The gold medal was claimed by Miguel Montero of Portugal with a distance of 11.21m, followed by Mongolia's Battulga Tsegmid with silver and Garrah Tnaiash of Iraq with bronze. Meanwhile, Russian Paralympic gold medalist Denis Gnezdilov, participating as a Neutral Paralympic Athlete, finished fourth with a throw of 10.80m. In the women's 1500m T11 race, Rakshita Raju was unable to advance to the final round after finishing last in Heat 3 with a time of 5:29.92s. Chinese athlete Shanshan He led the heat with a time of 4:44.66s, followed by Louzanne Coetzee of South Africa with a season-best time of 4:45.25s.
